A new state law requiring Carbon Monoxide (CO) alarms went into effect on March 31, 2006. Generally speaking anyone who owns residential property regardless of size that contains fossil burning fuel equipment or contains enclosed parking in Massachusetts is required to install CO alarms. After that date anyone who sells their property will be required to have an inspection by the fire department prior to the sale or transfer of their property. Read more about this at www.mass.gov/dfs.
The Lancaster Fire Department, in conjunction with the Village Seventh-Day Adventist Church, is conducting a Carbon Monoxide detector program for senior citizens in town. Any senior who needs a CO alarm but is unable to purchase one may contact the Lancaster Fire Department at 978-365-3502 for more info.
