"Preservation Matters" Series Announced
The Bulfinch Fund Launches
Preservation Matters
on January 32, 2010

What better place to socialize and discover something new about architect Charles Bulfinch than in one his finest public structures – The Fifth Meeting House of Lancaster.  Offered by The Bulfinch Fund, Preservation Matters is a Sunday afternoon series that begins at 3PM on January 31st with The Life and Times of Charles Bulfinch.

Join Dr. Thomas E. Conroy at 3PM and learn why Bulfinch’s story is more interesting and more tragic than many accounts reveal. Beginning with a look at Lancaster’s First Church, one of the few buildings he designed outside of Boston, this “tell all” lecture will examine the ways that political, social, and economic forces shaped the life and career of America’s first “native” architect.

The Life and Times of Charles Bulfinch will be followed at 4PM by a building tour and reception with Dr. Conroy and Bulfinch Board members. Dr. Conroy holds a doctorate in American History at the University of Massachusetts and serves as adjunct professor of Urban Studies at Worcester State College.

The January 31st event is the first of five programs being offered in 2010. Preservation Matters will explore how people and places have shaped our rich New England heritage. Using Bulfinch’s magnificent building as the conversational anchor, this series invites you to appreciate how our sense of who we are springs from stories embedded in our surroundings and help us better understand ourselves and our communities.

Combined with tours and refreshments, Preservation Matters programs are free. Donations to the The Bulfinch Fund are welcome. To register for the event email info@thebulfinchfund.org. To learn more about the efforts of The Bulfinch Fund see our website www.thebulfinchfund.org
