Census Forms Mailed Out...
If you haven’t already done so, please return your census/street listing forms to the Clerk’s Office, 695 Main St, Suite 2, Lancaster MA 01523. Mass General Law requires towns to conduct an annual census for several important reasons. Census responses are used to update and maintain the active voter list in town. Local police and fire departments obviously need accurate information on households for public safety reasons. The local school department needs to know how many children live in town so they can make accurate projections of space and budget needs. Population figures are also used by the state in calculating state and federal aid monies to the towns.
So it is important that we get an accurate count of residents of all ages. Specific information on anyone under the age of 17, though collected through the census, is not made available to the public and is only given to public safety and local school officials for the reasons stated above. If you have any questions about the annual census, please contact the Clerk’s Office at 978-365-2542 or via email at sthompson@lancasterma.net.
