2012 Jury List Available
The 2012 Jury List is available for public inspection in the Town Clerk's Office.

The names on the 2012 Prospective Juror List are derived from our list of residents in 2011.  The List is not a complete listing of residents, but it is pretty close.  Residents who have been called for jury duty during the last three years are exempt, but pretty much everyone else is on the list. The presence of one’s name on the List does not necessarily mean that person will be issued a juror summons.  However, a person cannot be summoned as a juror if his or her name does not appear on the Prospective Juror List.  M.G.L. Chapter 234A, §15 requires that this list be made available for inspection by members of the public.  If you want to know whether or not your name is on the list, please contact the clerk's office by phone (978-365-2542) or via email at sthompson@lancasterma.net or bbartlett@lancasterma.net.

Please be aware of a scam that continues to occur whenever these lists are made available:
Most of us take these summons for jury duty seriously, but enough people skip out on their civic duty, that a new and ominous kind of scam has surfaced.
Fall for it and your identity could be stolen, reports CBS.

HERE'S HOW IT WORKS
In this con, someone calls pretending to be a court official who threateningly says a warrant has been issued for your arrest because you didn't show up for jury duty. The caller claims to be a jury coordinator. If you protest that you never received a summons for jury duty, the scammer asks you for your Social Security number and date of birth so he or she can verify the information and cancel the arrest warrant. Sometimes they even ask for credit card numbers. Give out any of this information and bingo! Your identity just got stolen.

The scam has been reported so far in 11 states, including Oklahoma, Illinois, and Colorado.

This (scam) is particularly insidious because they use intimidation over the phone to try to bully people into giving information by pretending they're with the court system.

The FBI and the federal court system have issued nationwide alerts on their web sites, warning consumers about the fraud.
