Re: Lancaster Lead Service Line Inventories

The United States Environmental Protection Agency revised the existing Lead and Copper Rule to include the requirement that water systems prepare and maintain an inventory of service line materials by October 16, 2024, specifically for lead service lines. More in depth information about the Lead and Copper Rule Revisions can be found on the Lead and Copper Rule Revisions section of the Mass.gov website (Lead and Copper Rule Revisions | Mass.gov) along with MassDEP created infographics summarizing the important information pertaining to the inventory process (download (mass.gov)).
In response to this new requirement, the Lancaster Water Department (LWD) has been in the process of creating an inventory of all water services in their system with the help of Haley Ward, Inc. The inventory will mainly consist of pipe materials, pipe installation dates, and pipe sizes for both the public and private side of every water service. The Lancaster inventory follows the US EPA’s and MassDEP’s recommended inventory structure and will be made available to the public once completed.

In order to classify the material and size of the pipe on the private side of the service line, the LWD needs your help. The LWD is requesting that all Users submit their private service line information using the Mass Lead Service Line Identification (MA-LSLI) Web App (Mass Lead Service Line Identification (MA-LSLI) Web App (smartsheet.com)). The MA-LSLI submission form is easy to navigate and provides a link to the EPA guide “Protect Your Tap: A Quick Check for Lead” that will help you identify your service line material. The MA-LSLI submission form will also request photo(s) of the service line which are important for confirming the material.

There will be a flyer with a QR code included in the next water bill. Follow the QR code to be directed to the MA-LSLI web app submission form and submit the required private service line information.
